Inframark: Cost savings through AWS data pipeline architecture

“Inframark partners with municipalities across the country to manage water and wastewater infrastructure. We are building an Infiltration and Inflow (I&I) analytics platform to help identify water loss across pipe networks. As we worked to scale that platform beyond a locally-hosted setup, we brought in Tech 42 to help modernize our architecture on AWS.

Tech 42 rebuilt our data pipeline as a serverless, event driven architecture that scales seamlessly. They also helped us parallelize serial processes for best compute efficiency.

What stood out most was the architectural judgment Tech 42 brought to the table, not just the build itself. Our initial design was more complex than it needed to be, and the conversations with their team around right-sizing the architecture and rethinking our approach to Lambda were some of the most valuable parts of the engagement — we came away with a meaningfully leaner design, which we estimate saved us at least a couple thousand dollars in build costs.

The handoff was just as thorough as the build. Tech 42 delivered a full README with an architecture diagram and a complete index of our Terraform resources, and walked our team through a live, recorded knowledge transfer session covering the entire deploy, maintenance and teardown process — so we're not dependent on them to operate what they built.

Communication throughout, whether over Slack or email, was consistent and responsive. We came away with a much stronger grasp of AWS architecture and cloud-native design, and a solid foundation as we scale this platform to onboard more municipal customers.”
